  • Job Summary

    Hearts & Bones Rescue (“HBR”) is seeking a part-time Social Media Coordinator to join our passionate team, dedicated to saving the lives of shelter dogs in need and uniting them with loving adopters. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foster-based rescue with dual bases in Dallas, TX and New York City. We rescue approximately 1,000 dogs from overcrowded shelters each year, thanks to an incredible network of rescue partners, fosters, volunteers, and a small but mighty full-time staff!

    We are looking for a creative and analytical social media professional to join our team and help grow our impact through thoughtful storytelling and digital strategy. The Social Media Coordinator will be responsible for the social media and content strategy at the rescue. Key responsibilities include overseeing our successful social media channels, and creating and implementing campaigns to highlight varied aspects of our mission. A successful candidate will possess a strong independent work ethic, boundless creativity, a sense of humor, an inclusive and open-minded attitude, and of course be totally dog crazy!

    Responsibilities

    • Develop and deploy creative tactics and campaigns via digital platforms to engage and grow our community, and further our rescue mission

    • Manage all social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) including planning schedule, creating posts, monitoring, and day-to-day community management

    • Create, edit, and post short-form content on all platforms

    • Analyze and report on metrics and impact of our digital platforms, optimizing for reach and engagement

    • Recruit and oversee a teams of volunteers including:

      • Social media volunteers to assist with social posts

      • Photographers

    • Stay up to date on the latest trends in social media, emerging technologies, and nonprofit communications

    • Work will be primarily remote, with in-person attendance at events

    ​Requirements

    • 2-5 years experience in the social media field

    • Expert in social media strategy, trends and best practices, including Instagram, Facebook and TikTok

    • A skilled storyteller, both through visual media and compelling copywriting, including creating and posting short-form content

    • Willingness to travel to obtain content for dogs needing transport

    • Strong independent work ethic, with the ability to drive strategy and accomplish tasks with little or no supervision

    • Strong written communication, including the ability to write clear and compelling social posts

    • A great eye for content and basic photography skills

    • A customer first attitude and the ability to interact with adopters and fosters in a professional and kind manner, even in high pressure situations

    • Familiarity with dog adoption and fostering

    • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends

    • Must love dogs! We’re looking for an individual dedicated to the mission of saving the lives of shelter dogs in need and finding them loving forever homes

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in non-profit social media, particularly in the animal welfare space

    • Ability to handle dogs of varying sizes and temperaments

    • Ability to foster dogs in your home

    • Video editing experience

    • Basic graphic design skills

    • Volunteer management experience

    • Experience with Mailchimp, AirTable, website management, and/or social management

    Compensation & Benefits

    • 20 hours per week, flexible but weekend availability a must

    • $20+/hour depending on experience

  • Job Summary:

    Hearts & Bones Rescue (“HBR”) is seeking a responsible part-time driver with a deep love for animals capable of driving a large vehicle from Texas to New York with up to 40+ dogs onboard. We are a 501c3 non-profit organization focused on saving dogs from in the areas where shelters are under the greatest stress and transporting them to to communities where they have a greater chance of being adopted. Once in New York, our dogs live in loving foster homes until adoption.

    The Animal Transporter is primarily responsible for the safe and timely transportation of canines from Dallas/Fort Worth to New York State. This position requires a valid driver’s license in good standing. the ability to drive a large van and care for the animals onboard, and the ability to load and unload dogs as they depart and arrive. Working with dogs is physically demanding, sometimes unpredictable, challenging, and most of all – rewarding!

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensure that animals are provided with a comfortable, safe transport between locations, in a clean, secure vehicle and always adhering to best practices for companion animal transports.

    • Provide all animals on board with water and food, and safely walk dogs during relief breaks throughout the trip. Clean out the van after transport is completed.

    • Complete long distance round-trip (approx 50 hours on the road from Dallas to New York) transports for animals leaving the Dallas/Fort Worth area, accompanied by a co-driver.

    • Efficiently communicate with the teams in Texas/New York while on the road, ensure that all paperwork and medication arrives with the animals, and communicate any escalation issues that may arise immediately.

    • Map out the most optimal routes for each trip to maximize efficiency.

    • Oversee pre-planning process of assigning dogs to kennels, and other ongoing logistics involved in animal transport.

    • Maintain a clean and orderly interior and exterior of the vehicle, including keeping the exterior of the vehicle clean and presentable.

    The ideal candidate has:

    • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record (no moving violations and no at-fault accidents, as verified by background check); previous professional driving experience is preferred.

    • Previous experience with animal handling is a must as this position will be handling pets of a variety of temperaments and sizes. Knowledge of dog behavior and body language is helpful, and a passion for animals and animal advocacy is a requirement.

    • Must be detailed oriented and able to follow set processes and procedures.

    • The ability to excel in a fast-paced, often high stress environment.

    • This job requires physical labor and will involve cleaning. Work is performed on the road and outdoors, and will require working weekends and potentially holidays

    • Must be at least 25 years old with some prior work experience.

    • Must be eligible to work in the US.

    • No smoking or drugs.

    • References and background checks will be conducted.

    • Food stipend provided for long haul trips.
