About Hearts & Bones Rescue

Hearts & Bones Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization composed of a network of animal lovers who collaborate to rescue shelter dogs and find them loving, forever homes. We are dedicated to building a coalition of individuals and organizations across the country to save lives in the areas where shelters are under the greatest stress, and transport our dogs to communities where they have a greater chance of being adopted. As a foster-based rescue, we focus on providing all of our dogs with loving temporary homes that help them prepare to join their new families. 

 

Currently, we rescue our dogs from overcrowded shelters throughout the Dallas-Forth Worth area and transport them to our foster and adoptions hub in New York City. Once our dogs leave the shelters, we place them into foster homes around Dallas or bring them to our new Rescue Ranch facility to receive care and prepare to travel. We then run large transports of 40+ dogs from Texas to NYC approximately every 2-3 weeks. ​

 

About the Job

Hearts & Bones Animal Rescue is seeking a full-time marketing manager to join our passionate team, dedicated to saving the lives of shelter dogs in need and uniting them with loving adopters. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foster-based rescue with dual bases in Dallas, TX and New York City. We rescue approximately 1,000 dogs from overcrowded shelters each year, thanks to an incredible network of rescue partners, fosters, volunteers, and a small but mighty full-time staff!

 

We are looking for a creative and analytical marketing professional to join our team and help grow our impact through thoughtful storytelling and digital strategy. The Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day management of all marketing activities at the rescue, as well as crafting and driving our overall marketing strategy. Key responsibilities include overseeing our successful social media channels, creating and implementing campaigns to highlight varied aspects of our mission, email marketing, press outreach, and brainstorming new channels and methods to expand our reach. The Marketing Coordinator will also work closely with teams across our rescue to promote priorities, including Fundraising, Foster and Adoptions. A successful candidate will possess a strong independent work ethic, boundless creativity, a sense of humor, an inclusive and open-minded attitude, and of course be totally dog crazy! 

 

Location: New York City, NY. Work will be primarily remote, with weekly in-person attendance at adoption events, transport arrivals, etc.

 

Job Description

  • Work with Board to craft overall marketing strategy for the organization and implement across channels

  • Develop and deploy creative tactics and campaigns via digital platforms to engage and grow our community, and further our rescue mission

  • Manage all social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) including planning schedule, creating posts, monitoring, and day-to-day community management

  • Craft email marketing strategy and implementation, including basic list development and management, overseeing newsletter, and targeted campaigns

  • Establish press and public relations strategy, including pitching stories and responding to press inquiries

  • Analyze and report on metrics and impact of our digital platforms, optimizing for reach and engagement

  • Work with program managers across the organization to align priorities, foster a collaborative culture and create a cohesive marketing strategy that supports each program’s needs (i.e. foster recruitment, adoption promotion, fundraising, etc.)

  • Recruit and oversee a team of marketing volunteers to assist with social posts, email newsletters, press, graphic design, website management, and other tasks as needed

  • Stay up to date on the latest trends in marketing and social media, emerging technologies, and nonprofit communications

 

Requirements

  • 2-5 years experience in the marketing field

  • Expert in social media strategy, trends and best practices, including Instagram, Facebook and TikTok

  • A skilled storyteller, both through visual media and compelling copywriting

  • Strong independent work ethic, with the ability to drive strategy and accomplish tasks with little or no supervision

  • Strong written communication, including the ability to write clear and compelling marketing copy from emails to social posts

  • A great eye for content and basic photography skills

  • A customer first attitude and the ability to interact with adopters and fosters in a professional and kind manner, even in high pressure situations

  • Familiarity with dog adoption and fostering

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends

  • Must love dogs! We’re looking for an individual dedicated to the mission of saving the lives of shelter dogs in need and finding them loving forever homes

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in non-profit marketing, particularly in the animal welfare space

  • Ability to handle dogs of varying sizes and temperaments

  • Ability to foster dogs in your home

  • Video editing experience

  • Basic graphic design skills

  • Experience with Mailchimp, AirTable, website management, and/or social management tools

 

Compensation & Benefits

  • Full-time salary: $40,000+ based on experience, plus annual discretionary bonus
